If you are considering a new car purchase in 2018 there are plenty of exciting new models to consider.
In this list, we look at cars that will likely provide strong competition to existing models from other manufacturers in their category.
BMW i3s – A High Performance Electric Car
BMW is freshening up the i3 and launching the all-new i3s in 2018. The new i3s will have an increase in motor output from 125 kW to 135 kW. That allows the BMW compact to reach 100km/h in less than 7 seconds. Voice control functions were improved and now Apple CarPlay and smartphone mirroring will be available to operate wirelessly. The new i3s has a sophisticated and sporty design and offers, even more, performance with the SPORT driving mode, more direct accelerator response and tighter steering characteristics. These little electric cars will reach dealerships from January 2018.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross – A Stylish SUV
Mitsubishi will be launching a versatile and unique SUV to go on sale in mid 2018. The Eclipse Cross is highlighted by its bold design and innovative technologies such as panoramic sunroof, 360 camera, and the adaptive cruise control. It has 1.5-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine with an eight-speed CVT transmission, reaching 100km/h in less than 10 seconds.
Hyundai i30 N – A Zippy Hatchback
The most anticipated compact car in Australia is the new Hyundai i30 N. This model is “stylish and sophisticated” according to Thomas Bürkle, the Chief Designer at Hyundai. The Hyundai i30 N has been designed to combine the sports car spirit with the comfort of a luxurious sedan. Completing the design, the i30 N will provide its owners with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, satellite navigation with live traffic, and a list of safety and driver assistance technologies. The new hot hatch will be available in Australia in March 2018.
Toyota Camry – A Practical & Comfortable Sedan
The Australian favourite mid-size sedan is back. The new Toyota Camry 2018 is offered across four models: Ascent, Ascent Sport, SX and SL. If you are looking for a practical and comfortable sedan for the family, this new generation Camry may be a good fit. The rear seats fold down in a 60/40 split/fold to create extra luggage capacity, freeing up an additional 30 litres of space. Completely new in design and performance, the new Camry will be available with three engine systems: a new 3.5L direct-injection V6, a 2.5L four-cylinder petrol engine and a four-cylinder hybrid.
Holden Equinox – A Mid Sized SUV
Holden is launching a new SUV to replace the Captiva, the Holden Equinox. This SUV is set to compete directly in the same space as the Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX5 and Honda CRV. This compact crossover has plenty of space and advanced safety technologies like Side Blind Zone Alert, Forward Collision Alert and Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking. The new Equinox also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are three turbocharged engines offered: 127kW 1.5- and 188kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines, along with a 100kW 1.6-litre diesel.
Audi RS5 – A Luxury Twin Turbo Coupe
If a luxury vehicle is more to your taste, the new Audi RS5 has plenty to like about it. This second generation Coupe has been launched two years after the original and it will be in showrooms in Australia by the end of 2017. It has not only been redefined with an elegant design, it is also cheaper (albeit slightly) and faster than its predecessors. The twin-turbo V6 boasts a huge 170Nm torque increase over the previous model and the same 331kW power as the previous V8 model.
Audi revealed that the weight reduction allows the RS5 to hit 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. New features in this model include: three-mode electronic stability control, a range of driving assistance functions, 360-degree camera, Audi pre sense city, and Audi smartphone interface.
